Black Knight pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

Black Knight uses its lower ramp to reach an upper playfield where the mini-orbit stores three balls. Complete the upper bank when Lock is not lit, take three upper locks for Multiball, and keep the balls upstairs while three-ball scoring is tripled.

The goal

Reach the upper playfield through the safer lower ramp. Lock three balls through the upper mini-orbit, start Multiball, and keep the balls in the upper loop while scoring is doubled or tripled.

  1. Test the left, center, and right routes to the upper playfield; use the one the current flipper can complete safely.

  2. On the upper playfield, transfer to the upper-left flipper and shoot the short mini-orbit into the lock.

  3. If Lock is dark, complete the upper three-bank, then return to the mini-orbit.

  4. Repeat until three balls are locked and Multiball starts.

  5. During Multiball, keep all three balls alive for 3x scoring and repeat upper loops, locks, and safe ramps.

  6. When one ball remains, rebuild Lock and repeat the same route.

Alternative route: Upper-bank control

Use this when a lower ramp does not feed the upper playfield safely.

  1. Stop forcing the rejecting ramp.
  2. Use the safer available path to the upper playfield.
  3. Repeat the upper-left target bank for points and Lock progress.
  4. Take a lock only after the ball returns to the upper-left flipper under control.
Need to know
Ball locks
The upper mini-orbit locks balls after Lock is lit, and three locked balls start Multiball.
Multiball
Three balls score 3x and two balls score 2x until only one ball remains.
Upper bank
The three upper drop targets can light the next lock when the game uses the harder lock setting.

Machine setup

  • Confirm Williams Black Knight standard or LE, not licensed Black Rider or Cavaleiro Negro; verify ball count, tilt, Extra Ball, Special, and lock sharing.
  • Confirm whether every lock begins lit or requires the timed upper bank, and whether the center green arrow starts early two- or three-ball Multiball.
  • Test all three upper routes, upper lock and release, paired flippers, Magna-Saves and buttons, upper exit, half-figure-eight feed, ramps, spinner, and drop rebounds.
