Bon Voyage pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

Bon Voyage uses repeated shooter-lane returns to finish B, O, and N, while a center spinner changes the left-saucer value. Shoot the far-right outer deflector from the left flipper for another plunge, then use the right flipper to spin a low saucer value or collect it at 3,000 to 5,000.

The goal

Plunge B, O, then N; use the outer deflector from the left flipper, then use the right flipper to raise and collect the saucer value.

  1. Plunge B first, then collect O and N on later top-lane plunges.

  2. From the left flipper, shoot the far-right outer deflector arc.

  3. Let the returning ball enter the plunger lane, then plunge another missing top letter.

  4. From the right flipper, read the current left-saucer value.

  5. At 1,000 or 2,000, shoot the center spinner to change the value.

  6. At 3,000, 4,000, or 5,000, shoot the left saucer.

  7. Use the top-right target to collect missing letters from its lit trio.

  8. When all nine letters are complete, stop shooting the captive ball unless Special has value.

Alternative route: Spinner-to-saucer cycle

Use this plan when the outer deflector route does not return the ball to the plunger lane reliably.

  1. Control the ball on the right flipper.
  2. Shoot the spinner while the saucer shows 1,000 or 2,000.
  3. Read the new saucer value before the next shot.
  4. Shoot the saucer when it shows at least 3,000.
  5. Repeat while the spinner and saucer returns remain controlled.
Need to know
B-O-N skill shot
Collect B before O and N because a missed top-lane plunge usually rattles rightward.
Saucer value
The center spinner changes the left saucer value between 1,000 and 5,000.
Captive ball
The captive ball scores 1,000 to 4,000 by depth and another 3,000 at its rear standup.

Machine setup

  • Confirm the single-player 1974 Bally Bon Voyage, ball count, tilt, replay and Special conversion, and whether the event scores points, credits, or both.
  • Confirm that BON VOY AGE letters carry across balls and a captive-ball Special resets the bonus before using the captive ball after all nine letters light.
  • Test the spinner stopping position, left-saucer kickout, captive-ball strength, outer-deflector return to the plunger lane, and top-lane and slingshot feeds.
