Cross Country pinball rules and strategy

Strategy summary

The goal

Choose a colored route with the first plunge, then complete A–B–C–D to advance across the backglass map. Reaching station 10 earns a replay award. The Free Ball Gate returns the ball to the shooter lane for another plunge.

  1. Choose a route: Plunge the first ball through a red, blue or green top rollover to select that colored route on the backglass map.

  2. Advance across the map: Pass through the four gates marked A, B, C and D to advance the selected route to its next station. Reaching station 10 earns a replay award; the number of replays depends on the machine’s setup.

  3. Use the Free Ball Gate: Make A–B–C–D to open the gate at the upper right. Send the ball through the open gate to return it to the shooter lane. The gate stays open until used or until the game ends.

Plunge gate opening
The factory flyer also describes opening the Free Ball Gate with a top-rollover skill shot; the exact rollover is not identified clearly enough in the available photograph.
