Ding Dong / Smarty pinball rules and strategy

The goal

Complete words in the playfield’s letter grid to light the bottom lanes for Special or the central horseshoe for 500 points. The Special award differs between Ding Dong and Smarty.

  1. Light Special: Complete CLEW, HAVE, OVEN or PART across the letter grid to light a bottom lane for Special. Each completed horizontal word lights one Special.

  2. Collect Special: Roll through a bottom lane lit for Special. Ding Dong awards a replay; Smarty awards an extra ball or 1,000 points, depending on its adjustment.

  3. Light the horseshoe: Complete CHOP, LAVA, EVER or WENT down the letter grid to light the central horseshoe lane for 500 points. Send the ball through that lane while lit to score it.

Targets and rollovers light letters in the four-by-four grid on the lower playfield. Horizontal and vertical words light different awards.
