Four Million B.C. pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

In Four Million B.C., plunge just far enough to hit the bird switch and roll back down the ramp. Close the zipper flippers with the left red target or right yellow mushroom bumper. Lock balls in the Volcano and Tar Pit, then hit the center bumper three times to release the Tar Pit ball and start Multiball.

The goal

Repeat the precision ramp plunge after every lock, re-close the zipper flippers, and use micro-flips to settle the ball. The Volcano locks on the left; the open Tar Pit gate locks above its catch. Three center-bumper advances release the Tar Pit ball.

  1. Plunge just hard enough to trip the bird switch and let the ball roll back down the ramp for the raised switch values.

  2. Close the zipper flippers by hitting the left red standup or right yellow mushroom bumper, then use micro-flips to gain control.

  3. Lock a ball in the left Volcano saucer or through the open Tar Pit gate.

  4. On the next served ball, repeat the ramp skill shot, close the flippers again, and fill the other lock when practical.

  5. Hit the center bumper three times to advance and release the Tar Pit ball for Multiball.

Need to know
Ramp skill shot
Trip the upper bird switch, then roll back down across the three lower switches for their raised values.
Close zipper flippers
Hit the left red standup or the right yellow mushroom bumper.
Volcano
Lock a ball in the left saucer; the right mushroom bumper releases it and scores the indicated award.

Machine setup

  • Check whether balls are already locked before starting because the physical locks can carry between games. Confirm three- or five-ball play, tilt penalty, and award conversion.
  • Test the four ramp switches and bird switch, zipper-flipper close targets, both flippers and center gap, Volcano lock and release, Tar Pit gate and three advances, all locked balls, and each release feed.
