Gold Record / Top Ten pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

Clear all five drop targets, then hit a lit standup to qualify its outlane award. Do not aim for the outlane; collect it only if the ball is already leaving safely. For repeatable points, move the center spinning disk to 1,000, avoid rollover buttons that change its value, and keep returning to the disk.

The goal

Complete five drops, convert at a lit standup, and use the 1,000-point spinning disk as the repeatable scoring route.

  1. Complete all five drop targets to light the two standup targets.

  2. Hit a lit standup to qualify its corresponding outlane award.

  3. Leave the lit outlane as protection for a ball already heading there; do not shoot for an outlane on purpose.

  4. Use rollover buttons only until the center spinning disk reaches 1,000, then avoid those buttons so the disk stays at that value.

  5. Repeat controlled shots to the 1,000-point disk, rebuilding the five-drop qualification only when the safer scoring loop breaks down.

Need to know
Five drops
Completing the five-drop bank lights the two standup targets.
Lit standups
A lit standup qualifies the corresponding outlane award.
Outlane awards
Special or Extra Ball may be available according to the installed card and operator setup; never feed an outlane deliberately.

Machine setup

  • Confirm the shared OPDB family G5vwv: Gold Record is Chicago Coin model 456, exact four-player variant G5vwv-MwNNW; Top Ten is model 455, exact two-player variant G5vwv-MQddV. The shared instruction-card archive applies to both editions, but player count and cabinet identity must remain distinct.
  • Inspect the installed replay or Extra Ball instruction card and confirm ball count, award conversion, replay threshold, tilt response, and whether Special or Extra Ball behavior has been changed by the operator.
  • Test all five drop targets and reset, both standups and lamps, both outlane lamps and awards, rollover buttons, bonus advance and collection, last-ball bonus doubling, the spinning disk and its 1,000 indication, flippers, slingshots, pop bumpers, and scoring reels before competition play.
