The Strategy
Skylab / Spacelab raises base bonus through the letter bank, lit lanes, and the red Change buttons. Send the ball to the top through the side that can reach missing letters, complete the word for two bonus advances, and keep using upper play until base bonus reaches 24,000.
The goal
Send the ball to the top and bank it through missing letters in the playfield's letter bank, repeat the safer side until base bonus reaches 24,000, and ignore the captive-ball bank unless its award matters.
Read the missing letters in the playfield's letter bank, the lit lanes, and the current base bonus.
Choose the upper route that can bank the ball through a missing letter.
Send the ball to the top instead of shooting the captive-ball bank.
Use natural upper action to collect missing letters, Change buttons, and lit lanes.
Complete the playfield's letter bank for two bonus advances.
Keep using the controlled upper route until base bonus reaches 24,000.
After bonus is full, keep using the same controlled upper route.
On the last ball, protect the doubled 24,000 bonus instead of forcing a captive-ball award.
Alternative route: One-side upper repeat
Use this plan when one side of the playfield returns safely and the other side feeds a sling or outlane.
- Stop using the side with the unsafe return.
- Read which letters in the playfield's letter bank remain available from the safer side.
- Repeat a broad upper shot on that side.
- Accept lit-lane and Change-button advances from natural ball movement.
- Use the other side only when a missing letter requires it and the ball is controlled.

- Lit lanes
- Each lit top lane and lit return lane adds one bonus advance.
- Change buttons
- The two small red Change rollover buttons alternate which lanes are lit for a bonus advance.
Skylab / Spacelab raises base bonus through S-K-Y-L-A-B letters, lit lanes, and Change buttons in the upper playfield. Use controlled shots to reach 24,000 and preserve it for the last-ball double. Shoot the captive-ball bank only when its configured Special award justifies the lateral return.
