Spin-A-Card / Hearts and Spades pinball rules and strategy
The Strategy
Spin-A-Card and Hearts and Spades share upper saucers, card progress, and bumper-lighting side lanes, but their plunge priorities differ. Make the edition's useful skill shot, thread the ball beside the small saucers, and use the side lanes to light the matching yellow or green bumpers.
The goal
Send the ball to the upper playfield beside the small saucers. Use side lanes to light the bumpers, and avoid direct shots at the center, 2, and King targets.
Confirm whether the machine is Spin-A-Card or Hearts and Spades.
On Spin-A-Card, plunge the top-center lane for 500 points.
On Hearts and Spades, soft plunge the far-right lane to light the yellow bumpers.
Shoot beside a small saucer and barely graze the bumper above it so the ball continues upward.
Move the cabinet briefly so the playfield shifts under the ball, changing its speed or path after contact with a post, rubber, or wall. upper play so the ball enters a side lane that lights an unlit bumper color.
Accept a saucer only when the ball approaches it slowly during a natural upper-playfield feed.
Repeat the upper route and do not shoot directly at the center fan, number 2, or King target.
Alternative route: Tested cross-Shatz route
Use this plan only when the opposite return-lane shot scores and returns without an up-and-out drain.
- Test one low-force shot up the opposite return lane.
- Watch whether the ball scores and returns to the lower playfield.
- Stop immediately if the shot reaches an outlane or loses control.
- Repeat the cross-Shatz only while its return remains safe.
Need to know
- Edition skill shot
- Spin-A-Card favors the 500-point top-center lane, while Hearts and Spades favors a soft plunge to the far-right bumper lane.
- Bumper lights
- The right-side lanes light the yellow bumpers, and the matching left-side lanes light the green bumpers.
- Spin saucers
- Each small saucer scores points, spots a random card, and ejects the ball upward between a bumper and the center triangle.
Spin-A-Card and Hearts and Spades share a card-spotting upper playfield but value its routes differently. Use the 500-point top-center lane on Spin-A-Card or the far-right bumper lane on Hearts and Spades, then feed the small saucers and light bumpers through the matching side lanes. Avoid direct shots at the exposed center, 2, and King targets; the center fan award matters only after all ten cards are complete.
