Super Mario Bros. Mushroom World pinball rules and strategy
The Strategy
On hard rules, use Line Up to enter a World and clear the remaining drop targets within 30 seconds. Reach the eighth World for the Special, then repeat the Whistle target and lit ramp for Secrets and video modes.
The goal
Clear each World's remaining drop targets before the 30-second hard-rules timer ends, and reach Dark Land for the Special. After that, hit the Whistle target and shoot the lit ramp; every other Secret is one of the two video modes.
On hard rules, plunge to start Line Up. Let the pop bumpers settle on an award; Starman completes the current World, while another result begins its target round.
When the machine releases the ball, clear every standing drop target before the 30-second timer expires. Failing the World ends the ball by disabling the flippers.
Repeat the World cycle until seven are complete and the eighth World, Dark Land, begins. Starting Dark Land awards the Special.
After securing the Special on hard rules, avoid the upper-left World-start VUK when you can. Hit the Whistle target, regain control, then shoot the lit ramp for a Secret.
Repeat Whistle to lit ramp. The first and alternating Secret starts one of the two video modes; use the flippers to jump in the first game and swim around obstacles in Frog Mario.
Need to know
- Line Up and Worlds
- The plunge starts Line Up. Without a Starman award, the current World begins and a fixed subset of drop targets falls before the timed target round.
- World completion
- Clear the remaining targets before the timer expires. Completing seven Worlds and beginning Dark Land awards the Special.
- Starman
- Landing on Starman during Line Up completes the current World automatically.
Super Mario Bros. Mushroom World changes substantially between its hard and easy setups. On hard rules, Line Up begins each World, the remaining drop targets must be cleared within 30 seconds, and the best route is to secure the eighth-World Special before settling into Whistle-to-ramp video modes. Easy rules remove the timer and make Boom Boom Multiball useful for clearing Worlds.
