Volcano pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

Watch the cycling crater lamps, press the right action button to freeze one briefly, and shoot that lit crater. Each successful capture serves another ball; the third capture releases all three balls for Multiball. Hit individually lit drops to raise the Seismic Multiplier and light the left-button ball save. Craters 2, 3, and 4 can also start timed playfield multipliers.

The goal

Prioritize lit crater captures because they build toward Multiball. Freeze a crater only when the ball is controlled, and use the left-button save before a likely outlane drain. During Multiball, favor safe crater and spinner feeds while doubled playfield scoring is active on the three-ball setup.

  1. Control the ball, watch the cycling crater lamps, and press the right action button when a reachable crater is lit.

  2. Shoot the frozen lit crater to capture the ball; make a scoring switch before trying to freeze the lamps again.

  3. Repeat the freeze-and-capture sequence until the third captured ball releases all three balls from the Volcano Shaft.

  4. During Multiball, keep shooting controlled crater or spinner feeds while the configured doubled playfield scoring remains active.

Machine setup

  • Test all four crater switches, cycling lamps, capture and release hardware, both action buttons, the moving shooter guide, every drop target and lamp, left-outlane ball save, top hole, spinner, Volcano Shaft, and Lava Level indicators.
  • Confirm three- or five-ball play, whether Multiball doubles playfield scoring, captured-ball carryover, Extra Ball and Special conversion, and action-button timing before relying on those features in competition.
