Lucky Hand pinball rules and strategy

The Strategy

Jacks Open and Lucky Hand reward different drop-target plans. In Jacks Open, collect exactly three suits so each standing drop scores 4,000, then clear non-required targets before finishing the displayed poker hand. In Lucky Hand, complete each hand quickly; after Royal Flush, repeat its five lit targets for 50,000-point Wows.

The goal

Finish each displayed hand quickly. After reaching Royal Flush, repeat the five lit Royal Flush targets for 50,000-point Wows when tournament settings convert the add-a-ball awards to points.

  1. Plunge an uncollected center suit. The center lanes are harder to reach during play.

  2. When add-a-ball awards convert to points, complete the card targets required by each displayed hand instead of milking standing drops.

  3. For each displayed hand, save the center Queen and other dangerous required targets for last.

  4. After reaching Royal Flush, repeat the five lit Royal Flush targets for 50,000-point Wows until the ball drains.

Alternative route: Take the safer hand progress

Use this plan when center-drop rebounds are not controlled.

  1. Shoot outside drops first. Avoid exposed bare rubber behind a down target.
  2. Save the center Queen until the hand requires it. Hit one edge, not the center.
  3. On Lucky Hand, keep advancing the required hand; the Royal Flush Wows are worth more than extended drop-target milking.
Need to know
Suit lanes
An uncollected suit scores 5,000, and each completed suit raises every standing drop target by 1,000.
Lucky Hand
Finish hands quickly; after Royal Flush, the five lit targets can score repeatable 50,000-point Wows when configured for points.
Flipper guides
A held flipper can let an inbound ball roll through the outer guide gap, so test catches and bounces before relying on them.

Machine setup

  • Confirm Jacks Open versus Lucky Hand, the installed ball-count card, and whether replay, Special, add-a-ball, and Wow awards convert to points.
  • Confirm suit, hand, target-reset, carry, rollover, side-lane, replay, and tilt settings before choosing the Jacks Open or Lucky Hand payoff.
  • Test all suit lanes, nine drops, center Queen, side-lane exits, flipper-guide gaps, target rebounds, and Royal Flush lamps during practice.
